Haas Choosing Not To Develop 2021 Car In-season

With one eye on the big changes happening in 2022 and in order to try and make a return to their 2018 form, Haas will try to not develop their 2021 challenger.

They have already put themselves on the back foot by deciding to trade in their experienced line-up of Grosjean and Magnussen, with the youthful pairing of Schumacher and Mazepin. This move might prove a bad decision for the American based team, but Guenther Steiner is saying otherwise, “It will be a year of transition. From next week, we will only work in the wind tunnel for 2022. If everything doesn’t go wrong, we won’t do anything to the 2021 car”.

He was also questioned about his young driver line-up and the fiery nature of the pairing, “If they fight without damaging the team, I have no problem with that,” said Steiner.

Even without planned development, he is hopeful of a slight upswing in fortunes for this team, “It would be ideal to leave Alfa Romeo and Williams behind us, but that will be difficult. It will be a fight like last year”.

He also lauded the improvements to the Ferrari power plant for the coming season and hopes that will help propel them at least above Williams. His main hope for this year is for his two rookies to pick up as much experience as possible before a defining year in 2022.

Will this prove a wise move, time will ultimately tell. However, we have seen this idea happen before with the mighty Mercedes. I don’t think this will have the same dramatic effect, but I do envision them returning to the higher end of the midfield, where they know they belong.
