Magnussen to make IndyCar debut at Road America

Kevin Magnussen is to return to single-seater racing at the REV Grand Prix in Road America. The Dane will race for Arrow McLaren SP at Road America, replacing the injured Felix Rosenqvist, who suffered a huge accident at the Detroit Grand Prix last weekend, after his throttle became stuck open. The Swede smashed into the wall at very high speed, almost launching him over the barrier.

Magnussen has been racing in Sportscars in 2021 but will return to single-seaters with McLaren, the team that also provided him with his F1 debut. Rosenqvist was replaced by Oliver Askew in the 2nd of the Detroit races, however, Askew is subbing in for Rinus VeeKay this weekend, after the Dutchman injured himself in a cycling accident. Magnussen will not be the only driver making his IndyCar debut at Road America; as Cody Ware will race for Dale-Coyne Racing.

Dale-Coyne Racing’s other driver, Romain Grosjean, said the news his ex-F1 teammate competing was ‘awesome’, with the 2 having raced together at Haas between 2017 and 2020. Pato O’Ward leads the driver’s standings heading into the race, just 1 point ahead of Alex Palou after the Mexican claimed a 1st and 3rd in Detroit.

We wish Felix Rosenqvist the speediest of recoveries and hope to see him back on track soon while sending our best wishes to Magnussen ahead of his IndyCar debut.
