The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to remain on the Formula 1 calendar through the 2026 season. A new three-year agreement has been signed, ensuring the Baku City Circuit’s continuity to host one of the most challenging and unique races on the F1 schedule.
The Baku City Circuit has become a fan favourite in recent years, with its 6 km (3.7 mi) long, 20-corner layout designed by legendary F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke providing a unique and exciting challenge for the world's best drivers. The circuit's combination of tight corners and high-speed straights has led to some incredible racing and memorable moments, making it a highlight of the F1 calendar.
The organisers have been keen to keep the race on the calendar, and their efforts have paid off, with a sell-out crowd attending the 2023 race. The introduction of a new sprint format, featuring standalone qualifying and race sessions on Saturday, has helped to entice fans and create a new level of excitement around the event.
The decision to move the race back to an April slot on the calendar has also been welcomed by organisers, who have stated that they are happy to be flexible with either April or June dates depending on F1's needs. This flexibility demonstrates their commitment to keeping the race on the calendar for years to come.
F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali quoted:
"The Baku City Circuit has become a hugely popular venue for Formula 1,
"It is an incredible circuit which always delivers huge drama, and has played host to some of the most exciting races in recent memory. We are delighted to extend our relationship with the country of Azerbaijan and look forward to continuing our growth together."
Farid Gayibov, Azerbaijan's minister of youth and sports, stated:
"We are thrilled to confirm our continued partnership with Formula 1,
"In 2016, the economic, social, and cultural impact of the sport on our city and country has been remarkable. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is a source of great pride for the whole country and will now continue to inspire and excite our fans for a further three years.
"The past six races have been some of the best and most dramatic in the sport's long history and we look forward to creating more magical moments for F1 fans at home and abroad over the next three years – starting with this weekend.
"Moreover, today's agreement has come during a weekend that sees us hosting a record number of fans from over 100 countries, which only serves to make this moment even more special."
