Bennett takes two further podiums at Brands Hatch to secure Vice Champion position

Written by Tom Evans

DIVEBOMB partnered driver John Bennett secured two further podiums at Brands Hatch, to take the title battle with Rodin’s Louis Sharp down to the final race of the year. At the end of the three races, Bennett secured himself the vice champion position, just 22 points behind eventual champion Sharp.

Following a tougher weekend at Donington Park, Bennett was looking to take as many points as possible in a closely fought title battle, lasting from round one of the season. Leading practice on Friday morning put him in the best possible position heading into the rest of the weekend. Qualifying put him on the front foot, missing out on pole position by just 0.020 seconds, but securing a front row start alongside Elite Motorsports McKenzy Cresswell. Bennetts second fastest lap was good enough for P3,  leaving him right in the hunt for top positions at the start of each race.

Race One closed the gap between Bennett and Sharp in the title battle, with John taking P2 at the chequered flag whilst the championship leader was left down in P7. Race two commenced on Sunday morning, with Bennett mounting pressure on Sharp in first place from the very first lap. Ultimately Bennett crossed the line in P2, losing some ground in the title fight. The reverse grid race would decide the championship, and despite outscoring his rival it wouldn’t be enough to clinch the drivers title, finishing P9 with eventual champion Sharp in P10.

This left Bennett in the vice champion position, taking three wins, 11 podiums, five fastest laps and three pole positions across the season. “We went into the year with the goal being the championship, but Vice Champion is definitely something to be proud of.” said Bennett to DIVEBOMB. “It has been a very strong season and great to compete at the front again after a tough 2023. Now it’s onwards and upwards for next year!”

Everyone at DIVEBOMB congratulates John on his fantastic 2024 campaign, and will continue to support him in his future career successes.
