Breaking: Williams Unveil 2021 Car

The long standing British F1 team based in Grove, Williams has become the most recent team to unveil their 2021 challenger. After a horrid 2020 season, the team will be looking to bounce back and secure a spot within the midfield.

The team will boast the popular pairing of Canadian, Nicholas Latifi and Mercedes protégé and young British driver, George Russell, who is in the last year of his contract with Williams. He will undoubtedly be hoping to produce a performance good enough to impress Mercedes-AMG team principal, Toto Wolff, in a bid to snatch the second seat in the Brackley-based team from Finnish driver, Valtteri Bottas for 2022. Meanwhile, on the other side of the garage, Latifi will remain in the Williams team for 2022 due to his multi-year contract with the team. George featured in multiple impressive Q2 appearances in 2020 in what proved to be a fairly uncompetitive car. Nicholas Latifi achieved a trio of well-deserved 11th place finishes.

The car, dubbed the FW43B, has some resemblance to the older 2020 model car, due to the mostly stable regulations and limited development permitted due to COVID-19. Although it’s primarily the same as last season’s car, the team has implemented small improvements around the car to hopefully gain them some advantages over their rivals in the bottom half of the table. The team will continue to run the Mercedes engine.

As for the livery, the team looked forward to unveiling it via an augmented reality presentation. However, that was unable to go ahead. The Williams app was unfortunately hacked shortly before the performance was set to happen (read about it here). It is a shame that a small number of fans can ruin the experience for the rest of the fanbase. The livery itself introduces some striking blues to the popular team’s car. It keeps the dark navy and white of previous years with the addition of a striking greenish-blue striped vertically across it.
