The Chinese Grand Prix was cancelled in 2019 due to China's covid policies. As a result, the race has not been held since the 1000th Grand Prix in 2019. The Grand Prix held at the Shanghai International Circuit is scheduled for April 2023; however, there are concerns with the race being scheduled so early in the season due to the continuing COVID restrictions and the mandatory isolation period for visitors entering China. In addition, F1 personnel are not exempt from quarantine in China.
The F1 chairman Stefano Domenicali has not yet called off the race, but with the restrictions, it seems inevitable. The 24-race planned season is expected to be cut short as F1 isn't planning on replacing the event.
This cancellation will leave a four-week gap between the Australian and Azerbaijan Grand Prix unless the talks between F1 and local Authorities allow for the race to be brought forward by a week.
