The American was fined US$30 000 after some COVID-19 protocol irregularities were discovered in the event hosted at Daytona International Speedway.
NASCAR officials said Ganassi was punished for “bringing into the competition area a non-essential individual that was restricted from the footprint.”
Two other NASCAR Cup Series team crew chiefs, Adam Stevens and Joe Gibbs were fined after irregularities were found in their cars. Both were fined US$ 10 000 after an unsecured lug nut was discovered on both their cars during post-race checks.
