A huge crash during FP2 of the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix added another layer of uncertainty to Doohan's F1 career at Alpine, as the rookie has failed to impress during his outing so far this season.

Ahead of the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, Doohan was asked by the media about potential injuries sustained from the crash, as footage had shown the Australian struggling to emerge from the car after the race on Sunday.

"I think yeah, I was sore a little bit on Friday, and certainly Saturday was a bit worse and Sunday a little bit worse again," Doohan said during the drivers' conference. "So I'd say that there was a pain from the start of the race, not necessarily towards the end, but it helps with the adrenaline a little bit for sure."

"I think you know it's natural with the shunt and just the positioning. So, a couple of days off, Monday, Tuesday, and obviously yesterday has been very much needed."

Doohan's crash appeared to have emerged as a result of the Australian not closing the DRS— something that is need to be done manually in Suzuka as Turn 1 is taken flat-out. This essentially meant that the car itself had travelled into Turn 1 with the DRS still open, causing the car to lose balance completely.

The Alpine rookie has much criticism on social media platforms for his season so far with the team, but remains confident that he can bounce back and deliver a strong set of results in order to maintain his seat going forward.

Doohan currently sits 19th in the 2025 Constructors' Championship standings, with no points having been scored thus far, while Alpine are bottom of the Constructors', as the only team who have failed to score a point at the three races so far.
