Aston Martin is now entering its fifth season in Formula One (under their current name). Let’s discuss them as we go into F1’s 75th season.
The Silverstone-based outfit’s 2024 campaign was not too good, but not too bad. They retained fifth place in the Constructors' championship, which was equal to their 2023 finish. However, this time, it was only with 94 points - compared to the 280 points which netted them fifth two years ago.
Aston Martin hopes to improve on their race results this season. Fernando Alonso proved to be a consistent points-scorer throughout the campaign, with fellow driver Lance Stroll unable to replicate similar form.
In addition, design maestro Adrian Newey is officially joining the team soon, and Aston Martin hopes he can bring his invaluable design insight to help them develop this season and in the future.
Newey has historically uplifted many of the teams he has worked with, including Red Bull, McLaren and Williams.
When announcing that he would join the team from this year onwards, team owner Lawrence Stroll commented: “This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world in what he does”.
Newey is one of many changes to the team this upcoming season, as Aston Martin expects its new factory to be open in a couple of months’ time. This promises a myriad of facilities, such as a wind tunnel and new driver-simulator tools.
Moving into this season on track, they revealed this season’s challenger - the AMR25 - which they hope will help them achieve the on-track improvement the team desires. New team principal Andy Cowell commented: “It’s the result of tremendous hard work at the AMR Technology Campus”.
Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll agreed with Cowell’s comments: “I know the team have been working hard at the AMRTC,” said the Spaniard. “Everyone over at the AMRTC had put in a lot of hard work to improve in 2025,” the Canadian stated.
Time will tell whether this season will be an improvement or a stagnant year for Aston Martin. Let’s see at the opening round - the Australian Grand Prix.
