Ferrari Unveils SF-21

The iconic Italian manufacturer, Ferrari has become the last team on the grid to release their 2021 challenger. Expectations for this car will be high after last year’s as the SF-1000, failed to meet either both the teams, and the fans, standards for what a Ferrari Formula One car should be, finishing 6th in the standings with no race wins.

The new car, dubbed the SF-21, will be driven by Ferrari’s new signing, Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr and the remaining Monegasque, Charles Leclerc. Both drivers had fairly good seasons in 2020 with Sainz finishing P6 in the drivers’ standings for McLaren and Leclerc finishing 2 places behind in P8.

The SF-21 will mostly feature the same parts of the SF-1000, but with a few added changes necessary to pass the new regulations such as changes made to the floor and rear diffuser. Ferrari fans will be hoping that the new car shares little resemblance to the old in terms of performance and that the new additions will have helped turn the team around.

This year’s livery sticks to Ferrari’s iconic Rosso Corsa red and looks stunningly good as that colour always does. It has added green specks to the engine cover for the Mission Winnow logo.

The Maranello-based team has struggled with management issues in recent years, with staff leaving for other teams and some, with the covid-19 pandemic, being laid off.

By far, Ferrari’s biggest issue on track last year was their lack of performance from the engine. Fortunately for Tifossi around the world, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto has shone a beacon of hope stating that the Ferrari engine has seen improvements over the winter. This of course is yet to be proven and Ferrari will have to wait until pre-season testing in Bahrain to show their improvements.
