Former F1 driver, Carlos Reutemann, has sadly passed away at the age of 79. The Argentine had been in the ICU following issues with haemorrhaging.

Reutemann was a prominent driver in the 1970s, having raced for Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams, and had won 12 of the 146 races he had entered. He retired in 1982 after a fallout with the Williams team. He famously achieved a pole position in his debut race, in his home Grand Prix in Argentina. He achieved his first win, 2 years later, at the South African Grand Prix.
Reutemann achieved 3rd in the championship in 1975, 1978 and 1980, and finished runner up to Nelson Piquet in 1981, in a career that spanned 11 seasons filled with success, and became the second most successful driver from his nation, after the great Juan Manuel Fangio.
Since his racing retirement, Reutemann became a prominent politician in his native Argentina, serving as the governor of Sante Fe between 1999 and 2003. However, his health had been declining in recent years, and unfortunately passed away after being moved to intensive care earlier today.
