Porsche Penske Motorsport revealed this morning that Pascal Wehrlein will join their WEC Hypercar lineup at next months 6 Hours of Spa, alongside Nico Mueller.
Wehrlein was announced as Porsche's final driver for their third Le Mans entry last month, in the No.4 Porsche 963. In Spa he will join reigning world champions Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor in the No.6 machine, to better prepare him for the WEC (World Endurance Championship) flagship event.
Mueller will join the No.5 car, alongside full season drivers Michael Christensen and Julian Andlauer. Mueller will also be at Le Mans in a reserve driver role.
Both drivers have had experience in the Porsche 963 before, with Wehrlein racing for the customer team JDC-Miller Motorsports in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Mueller on the other hand stepped into the same car at the 12 Hours of Sebring this year, after previously being apart of the Peugeot WEC team, in their 9X8 machine.
Regular full season drivers Matt Campbell and Matthieu Jaminet will be absent in Spa, due to a clash with the IMSA round at Laguna Seca. The original plan for the German marque was to run two driver entries at Spa, but the opportunity has presented itself to give their Le Mans rookies more driving time.
Wehrlein has been increasing his mileage in the 963 ahead of his Le Mans 24 Hours debut, completing tests at both Aragon in March and a much more recent test at Spa.
Porsche Penske will be looking to bounce back from a tough start to their WEC campaign in Spa and Le Mans with their new look lineups.
