Formula E has announced a new race that will take place in Brazil, beginning March 2023. This will be the first Formula E race in Brazil since the all-electric championship started in 2014. The race is set to take place in Sao Paulo from Season 9 of the championship, coinciding with the beginning of Formula E’s Gen 3 Era.
The race will be hosted in and around the Anhembi Sambadrome, which played host to IndyCar between 2010 and 2013, whilst the contract could see the city host a Formula E race for the next 5 years at least, with the option for renewal after this.
The move represents a further expansion of Formula E into Brazil, following the recent announcement of expanded TV coverage in the country, through both Cultura and SporTV channels. Brazil has a long and exciting history and following of motorsport, with Formula E currently boasting two Brazilian drivers in Lucas di Grassi (2016/2017 FE champion) and Sergio Sette Camara, meaning Brazil will likely have two home drivers to cheer on from next year.
Although the race is currently pending approval from the FIA, Formula E and Brazilian motorsport fans can now anticipate another motorsport event on home soil from 2023.
