Franco Colapinto is stepping up to Formula Two with MP Motorsport for the 2024 season. The 20-year-old Williams Academy driver will make his debut at the final race of this year in Abu Dhabi, replacing current driver Jehan Daruvala, who is making the transition to Formula E next season.

With four race victories, five pole positions, and ten podiums during his two seasons in Formula 3, Colapinto ended this season in fourth place in the championship with 110 points. Consistency was the key to the Argentinian driver's success this year, claiming points in all but four of the races and never qualifying below P12.

Following the announcement, Colapinto shared: “We've been working really hard to secure a seat in F2 so this is a dream come true. To be able to do it with MP Motorsport makes it even more special.”

Colapinto has already formed a strong partnership with the Dutch team, having raced with them in Formula Three this year as well as Formula Eurocup in 2020 and FRECA in 2021. He gave his thanks to the team for their continued trust and support, as well as the opportunity to jump into a Formula 2 car later this year.

MP Motorsport claimed both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in the 2022 season of Formula Two, with a well-established history across various feeder series alongside this. As proven race winners in the category, Colapinto said it felt “absolutely right” to stay with the team as he graduates to F2.

With a long and challenging rookie season in F2 ahead of him, Colapinto is “absolutely thrilled” to face the next challenge in his motorsports career: “ [I] couldn’t be prouder to fly the flag [of Argentina] in F2.”
