The British driver is stepping up in the world of Formula One to fill the shoes of departing Romain Grosjean and to replace him as the new director of the Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA). He will work alongside fellow director and driver, Sebastian Vettel, as well as chairman Alex Wurz. The GPDA represents the interests of all the drivers on the Formula One grid.

Russell, who will be driving for Williams for the 2021 Formula One season, mentioned that he was proud of the faith and trust that his competitors had put in him, saying that, ‘it is an honour and a privilege to be nominated director of the GPDA.’ Russell went on to commend the importance of the GPDA, ‘In its six decades of existence, the GPDA has been an integral part of supporting and shaping F1 safety, for the sport and our fans.’
Romain Grosjean, now embarking on a new career in IndyCar, will remain as an advisor to the association in order to help the ongoing work regarding the lessons that can be learnt from his horrific and fiery crash in Bahrain last year. Romain has been the director of the GPDA since 2017, replacing Jenson Button before him.

Anastasia Fowle has also been appointed as a new director. She will be the first non-driver director and will help shape the association’s business activities moving forwards.
