Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein has expressed his desire to hold a double-header at the Mexico City track, amid the circling rumours of Formula E's calendar next year. Formula E are yet to reveal their calendar for season 12, but co-founder Alberto Longo is already looking at new venues for the series.
Off the back of another strong weekend for Porsche in Mexico, driver Pascal Wehrlein spoke to the media about his views on Mexico’s place on the 2026 calendar next year: “I wish it was a doubleheader, I’ve been asking for it for a couple of years now.”
“I love coming here first of all for the fans. I feel they are the best fans in our racing calendar.
They are so enthusiastic, they love motorsport, they love racing, they love us drivers so many presents and gifts given to us I just enjoy racing here,” Wehrlein continued.
His remarks come following speculation around the calendar changes for the 2026 season with Formula E looking to expand to new venues that reflect the series’ growth in viewing numbers.
Two new circuits are set to debut this season: The doubleheader in Jeddah, followed by a round 5 race in Miami.
After six years in Diriyah, which was frequently regarded as the first round of Formula E as the cars converged on the dusty track to compete under floodlights, the Saudi Arabian race has moved to Jeddah.
His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal said in early September 2024: “We are thrilled to welcome Formula E to Jeddah after six successful years in Diriyah.”
“The Jeddah Corniche Circuit has proven itself to be a home to world-class racing since its opening in 2021, and in that time has established itself as the world’s fastest street circuit, acknowledged by fans and racers alike as one of the most exhilarating racing venues in the world today.
"It is a great pleasure to confirm that it will now add Formula E to its portfolio of world-class events.”
Formula E will travel back to the Homestead Miami Speedway in 2025, returning to the city that hosted the first e-Prix in the United States and is a frequent stop on the NASCAR calendar.
DS Penske and Andretti will both be attending the race with the intention of entertaining their home fans.
Andretti wants to repeat the team's success from the inaugural race in Miami, where Scott Speed finished on the podium ten years ago.
With the 2025 season set to be the longest-ever Formula E season, co-founder Alberto Longo is already looking for further circuits to join the calendar for next season and the coming years, with a return to Chile looking likely.
Speaking to Motorsport.com he said “We never say no to anything, we are a global championship, we race in five continents, and we like to keep expanding that number of races. It’s true that we are talking to Chile, as well as 11 other cities.
“We will decide the calendar in May, so we are very close to that date, to see which cities will form or shape the calendar for next season.”
The possibility of a return to Chile which hosted a total of three E-Prix across two different locations comes with the possibility of races at other circuits such as South Africa and Thailand as well as the possibility of an additional race in America.
