In a press statement released on Tuesday, the FIA confirmed there will be no additional rounds on the 2023 FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 calendars following the cancellation of Imola in May.

Having been subjected to heavy rain over a period of days, paddocks for the main event and support series were submerged in water on the Thursday of said weekend. The floods in the Emilia-Romagna region signified too big a risk logistically for local emergency services to take on the Grand Prix.

As for what this means for the calendars: the F2 season is shortened to 13 events, or 26 races, while the F3 season now consists of 9 events, or 18 races. FIA F2 and FIA F3 CEO Bruno Michel commented, “First, I am very sorry that we could not race to Imola this year, but obviously this was the right decision, and our hearts are with those who have been affected.

“Since then, we have looked at several options, but ultimately, we have decided that we will not add a new venue to this year’s calendars. With a total of thirteen F2 rounds and nine F3 events, I believe we still have enough races to deliver two amazing competitive seasons.”
