Iwasa Holds off Martins and Daruvala to Win F2 Sprint Race

The Red Bull junior secured his first win of the season ahead of the ART and MP Motorsport drivers.

Ayumu Iwasa secured his first win of the F2 season after a thrilling Sprint Race in Jeddah. Starting from fourth on the reversed grid, the Dams driver held off Victor Martins and Jehan Daruvala to take the chequered flag.

Martins finished second, taking the fastest lap with another impressive performance. The Frenchman driver battled Daruvala throughout the race, with the Indian driver eventually settling for third place.

Ralph Boschung and Kush Maini completed the top five, while Frederik Vesti, Jack Doohan, and Dennis Hauger rounded out the points scorers in sixth, seventh, and eighth positions respectively.

Iwasa overtook polesitter Jak Crawford on lap 2. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver struggled to maintain his position and eventually finished in 9th place, missing out on any points

An early safety car period, caused by a spin from Zane Maloney, closed the pack in the early stages of the race. Later, an incident involving Theo Pourchaire and Oliver Bearman knocked both drivers out of the race.

Martins showed how dominant ART look this year, a comeback drive from 10th to second further accentuating the speed displayed by himself and teammate Théo Pourchaire in qualifying on Friday.

Iwasa, who started the race from fourth, drove a faultless race and managed to hold off any challenges from his rivals to secure his first victory of the season.

The Red Bull junior's flawless performance showcased his potential in the highly competitive F2 field, and he will be hoping to build on this victory in Sunday's Feature Race.
