Jack Doohan signs with Alpine for F1 2025

Written by Owen Bradley

21-year old Jack Doohan has signed with Alpine for the 2025 Formula 1 season, replacing Esteban Ocon at the French team.

Doohan joined Alpine as a reserve driver for the 2024 Formula One World Championship after a strong Formula 2 campaign the year prior, finishing third in the championship and taking five podiums in 2023 and holding consistent positions inside the Top 10, scoring points frequently and steadily, something that is vital in Formula One.

Jack Doohan is also the son of a motorsport legend, Mick Doohan. Mick Doohan is a three time MotoGP/500cc World Champion and has had a huge influence over his son's career.

Many were in the running for the second Alpine seat alongside Pierre Gasly, names such as Mick Schumacher, Carlos Sainz Jr and other well-known drivers have had conversations with Alpine, but the French team have opted to give their young driver the opportunity to prove himself in F1.

Jack Doohan will therefore partner Gasly going into 2025, which will be the final year of the current regulations for the cars. This opportunity also ensures that Doohan will be an important voice for Alpine's future plans with the new regulations just around the corner.

Alpine themselves have had a tough period so far in 2024, with multiple team personnel leaving the team.

However, with the appointment of their new Team Principal, Oliver Oakes, and the announcement of Jack Doohan joining the project, Alpine may well be about to turn a new leaf heading into 2025, as the factory team attempts to come back to the front of the grid.
