Following a record breaking GB3 campaign in which the british driver finished second in the championship, Bennett would take part in the FIA F3 postseason tests at Jerez and Barcelona Circuits. Strong results would follow, finishing with the second fastest time in the final session at Jerez, and the eight fastest in the subsequent Barcelona session a week later. Bennett would consistently be one of the highest placing rookies throughout the two weekends of testing, and the highest placed VAR driver in seven of eight testing sessions. Commenting on John’s performance in these tests. VAR Team Principal Brad Joyce said: “John has shown impressive skill and maturity, particularly during the postseason F3 tests, where he quickly adapted to the car and demonstrated strong pace.”

“Thank you so much to VAR for the trust they have put in me with this opportunity,” said Bennett in a press release to VAR. “Earlier this year, I was able to take part in the F3 tests with VAR, and they went very well. The team and I feel that I am ready to take the next step in F2 and I can’t wait for the new challenge. This will be a big step up for myself, but I will be looking to learn as much as possible from these 2 rounds and achieve solid results with the team.”

The penultimate round of the FIA F2 Championship will commence this weekend at the Lusail international circuit in Qatar, followed by the season finale at the infamous Yas Marina Circuit, a track which Bennett has experience racing around during his Formula Regional Middle Eastern Campaign earlier this year.
