Former Red Bull Racing driver, Daniil Kvyat will join Romain Grosjean at the Lamborghini Prototype racing line-up.
The 28-year-old Russian will race in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA in the 2024 seasons with the Ligier-built Lamborghini LMDh car. The Italian team currently plans to have a single car in both racing series, with the two to both compete at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The roster for the Italian manufacturer comprises Kvyat, Romain Grosjean, Caldarelli and Bortolotti, currently the Russian’s teammate in this year's WEC LMP2 season, which started the year with a podium at Sebring.
It was announced that Kvyat would race in both categories, questioning how the team would allocate the four drivers in a three-drivers per car limitation. Kvyat also recently announced his preparation for a first test in Formula E with the NIO 333 team and has not dismissed the idea of combining both Formula E and endurance campaigns.
Being a native Russian, Kvyat will continue to compete as a ‘neutral athlete’ in WEC, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Lamborghini racing boss Sanna quoted:
“As a group, we are very excited to welcome Daniil to Lamborghini and believe he will be a strong asset to our LMDh project over the course of the 2023 season,”
“Daniil’s main role with us will be working closely with our engineers and mechanics on the prototype car which will debut next year and given his vast experience in other racing categories, I have no doubt that he will play a crucial part in us hitting the ground running in 2024.”
Kvyat stated:
“It is a great honour for me, Lamborghini is a very well-known Italian brand with a great history in the automotive world and, having grown up in Italy, this is an additional source of pride for me.”
