The first seat on the 2025 Formula 2 grid has been confirmed before the 2024 season has even come to an end. Newly crowned Formula 3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli will step up to the premier feeder series category with Invicta Racing, following a stellar season which ended with a last-lap overtake at Monza’s famous Parabolica to claim the title.

The Italian, who drove alongside teammates Sami Meguetounif and Santiago Ramos for his second season at Trident, took to the podium seven times over the course of the season, as well as taking two pole positions and two fastest laps. Fornaroli is Italy’s first Formula 3 champion and becomes the first driver to win the title without winning a single race.

Fornaroli follows in the footsteps of his past teammate Gabriel Bortoleto, who also drove his Trident to the Formula 3 crown in 2023 and stepped up to Invicta for the 2024 season, where he currently sits second in the championship standings.

In preparation for his F2 debut at Albert Park, Invicta has confirmed that Fornaroli will be participating in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi. With Fornaroli’s future plans already established, it is unsure where Invicta’s current pairing of Bortoleto and Kush Maini will end up in 2025, although Bortoleto is rumoured for a potential drive in Formula 1 should he keep up his exceptional form.
