Marcin Budkowski has been confirmed to have left the Enstone based team.

Budkowski joined the team in 2017 as executive technical director while it was still known as Renault F1 team, and in January of 2021 was promoted to Director of the rebranded Alpine F1 team.

Whilst news of his potential replacement is yet to be verified, rumours at the tail end of 2021 suggested that he was to be replaced by outgoing Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer. Other rumours suggest that Budkowski is to be headed to Silverstone to replace Szafnauer however nothing is yet to be confirmed.

Throughout the 2021 season Alpine’s management was a bit peculiar as a whole, as Budkowski shared the reins of the team alongside Italian Motorsport manager Davide Brivio. A revered name in Motorcycle racing, the Italian has managed multiple teams and riders to MotoGP Championships with his last double coming in 2020 with Suzuki and Joan Mir just before his move to F1.

Brivio was linked with a return to MotoGP as Suzuki seemingly suffered without him in 2021 but the Italian is set to remain at Enstone. Reports also do not suggest that he will take over the Alpine team, and that he will seemingly continue in the role of racing director.

What’s next for Alpine’s former director, and will he find a role elsewhere in F1? Let us know!
