It’s official! Inaugural F1 Academy Champion Marta Garcia will continue with Prema Racing in a fully-funded season of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA).

F1 Academy’s mission is to do what the W Series couldn’t – offer a progressive pathway towards F1. Garcia’s move to FRECA will prove to be a monumental moment in her career; the series has previously acted as a stepping stone for drivers looking to enter FIA F3 and F2, including the likes of Frederik Vesti, Arthur Leclerc, and more recently, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

The 23-year-old Spaniard will be looking to progress in a similar manner with the support from F1 Academy, alongside receiving funding from Prema Racing, Tatuus, and Pirelli.

Rene Rosin, Team Principal of Prema Racing commented: “We are really happy to continue working with Marta for 2024. We were really impressed by her approach and professionalism, and the progress she made throughout the year showed that she is ready to take the next chapter of her career.”

“The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is a challenging and competitive championship, but we think that Marta will be up to pace and we will support her to get there as quickly as possible.”

The announcement also brings the news that FRECA will also grant its top teams the entry of a fourth car if they sign a driver who finishes P1, P2, or P3 in the F1 Academy Championship, meaning there’s a good chance Garcia will be joined by former rivals Léna Bühler and Hamda Al Qubaisi in her 2024 campaign.

“We know we will have to work a lot with the team to succeed but I’m really determined to do well. I can’t thank F1 Academy enough,” said Garcia. “What an amazing opportunity, I’m looking forward to it and to the work that we have ahead, inside and outside the track.”

We look forward to seeing what’s in store for Garcia and the F1 Academy initiative in the coming years!
