Binotto has signed on as the head of Audi’s F1 project, due to a management shake up within the department.
Audi announced on Tuesday that Binotto has joined the team as chief operator and chief technical officer, starting from August 1st. Sauber CEO Andreas Seidl and Oliver Hoffmann have both stepped down from the roles at Audi, leaving Binotto the next man for the job.
Audi CEO Gernot Doellner issued a statement on the news: “I am delighted that we have been able to recruit Mattia Binotto for our ambitious Formula 1 project. With his extensive experience of more than 25 years in Formula 1, he will undoubtedly be able to make a decisive contribution for Audi.”
“Our aim is to bring the entire Formula 1 project up to F1 speed,” the CEO continued, “by means of clear management structures, defined responsibilities, reduced interfaces, and efficient decision making processes.
“For this purpose, the team must be able to act independently and quickly.”

Binotto, having been at Ferrari since 1995, rose through the ranks of the Scuderia, becoming team principal in 2019. He left his role as team principal at the closing stage of the 2022 F1 championship season, having failed to win the constructors championship. The Swiss-Italian now steps into a brand new project, adding to their ambitious effort to bring glory to the new Audi F1 team.
Audi F1 are set to join the grid at the start of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship season, taking over from Sauber.
