McLaren Racing and strategic partner, Gulf Oil International, have just announced a special painting celebrating its historic partnership with an exclusive design for the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix on 20-23 May.

The painting celebrates the sport’s return to one of Formula One’s most iconic awards. Mike Jones, CEO of Gulf Oil, said Gulf and McLaren have a relationship that dates back to 1968 and is one of the most successful partnerships in motorsport. “We are incredibly excited to pay tribute to this heritage with our classic livery design at the Monaco Grand Prix, the most spectacular and stylish event on the Formula 1 calendar.”

“To see the reaction of both Lando and Daniel as well as the whole McLaren team to this livery has been really special and we are thrilled to unveil it to motorsport fans around the world. The distinguished racing blue and fluro orange Gulf colors are iconic, so to mark our return to Formula 1 and showcase the livery in Monaco with McLaren is a great celebration of our bold and colorful place within the sport.” – Mike Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Gulf Oil.

The theme will be present in the MCL35M race cars, in the costumes of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, plus an orange belt, based on the classic Gulf design, throughout the Monaco Grand Prix race weekend.

The Drivers will also wear racing helmets with custom retro designs, specially created for the event, to be raffled off to the team’s mental health charity partner, Mind.

In stills from the video featuring their driver Lando Norris, we can see that the livery is an ode to the iconic McLaren liveries in the past and as always carries the gulf blue.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown added that this was McLaren’s homage to Gulf oil in their deep rooted history with them.
