Mercedes Formula One team announced earlier today that they had signed talented Karter, Yuanpu Cui, to their young driver’s programme. The thirteen-year-old, born in China, began racing go-karts at the age of six and since then has never looked back.
He started racing in 2014 and two years later finished an impressive second place in the Chinese Rotex of 2016. Since then he has been racing not just in China but worldwide.
Since then, Cui has pushed himself further – finishing on the podium in the Italian National events, WSK Final Cup, the ROK Cup Superfinal and WSK Euro Series in the mini-series.
More recently in 2020, he achieved second in the 31° Andrea Margutti Trophy championship as well as victories and podiums in the WSK Champions Cup with podiums in the WSK Super Master Series. He also achieved a podium in the 2020 Florida Winter Tour in Mini ROK.
This year, he will be continuing in OK-Junior classes with Kart republic and will be hoping to prove that his new bosses’ confidence is well placed.
