It has been 10 years since Michael Schumacher was last seen in the public eye. In December 2013, Schumacher had a skiing accident in France, which put him into a medically induced coma. Schumacher eventually did awaken from this coma in June of 2014, but devastatingly, it became clear that his life would never be the same again.
Many news organisations and media companies have exploited the case of Michael Schumacher, as some of the worst and most disrespectful people in the media industry, looking to use a man’s life for their own personal gain of attention and views by creating false headlines and even using AI to construct a fake interview with the F1 Legend.
Lawsuits and just overall grief for the entire Schumacher family to try and deal with, alongside frustration that they seriously should not have had to put up with.
Michael Schumacher, the Seven-Time World Champion. He fought against the greatest drivers in the world and beat every single one of them, with some of those drivers still on the grid today, such as Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Schumacher was also close with the Reigning F1 Champion, Max Verstappen.
Verstappen has revealed in interviews that he actually used to refer to Schumacher as “Uncle Michael” and that he took holidays with the Schumacher family on occasion.
Of course, Michael Schumacher has a son who managed to make it all the way to Formula One as well, Mick Schumacher. Mick had two seasons in Formula One, unfortunately with Haas who are possibly the slowest team on the grid.
In 2024, the young German will be joining Alpine for their World Endurance Championship campaign after leaving F1 at the end of 2022 as an active driver. He became a Reserve Driver for Mercedes AMG Petronas.
It’s been a really tough journey for the entire Schumacher family, and they really do deserve everyone’s support and empathy. A traumatic event which they have all had to endure, something which can take a long time to heal and process.
One thing stands absolutely clear is the resilience of the entire Schumacher family and their incredibly close bond with one another, is something which has kept them all going in such a tough time.
10 Years on since that horrible moment in the French mountains, the Schumacher family have come a long way and really proved their strength. To get an even clearer understanding of their journey, Netflix’s 2021 Documentary 'Schumacher' finally gave the general public a good insight into the family’s dynamic and also how close they are, whilst leading their own lives too.
For instance, Mick Schumacher has done many test runs in his father’s old cars, most recently driving in the 2012 Mercedes F1 car, which was the last Formula One car that Michael would drive. This surely gave many fans a teary eye.
Schumacher is without a doubt, one of the all-time greats of Formula One, with many still saying that he is the greatest of all time. 91 Victories, 155 Podiums and 68 Pole Positions. But these are just the statistics. He earned the name “Regenmeister” after many extraordinary performances in wet weather conditions.
Michael Schumacher remains to be seen by the public since his accident in 2013. Whilst there is always speculation on the treatment that Schumacher is receiving, and many people are desperate to know, it’s clear that Michael has some great people around him and they have all worked extremely hard to respect his wish, which is that things remain private.
Everybody really does hope for him to make a recovery, it would be a remarkable achievement for the Schumacher family. Of all the battles that Michael Schumacher has faced, against fierce competition and rivals, this is his greatest battle.
To finish, a quote from Michael Schumacher himself seems appropriate.
“I’ve always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting even when there’s only a slightest chance.”
