After a month-long summer break, MotoGP returns as the heat makes way for autumn. Welcoming the teams and riders deep in Great Britain's motorsport valley is Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix.

Built on the remnants of a World War 2 Royal Air Force Bomber Station (RAF Silverstone), the circuit runs for 5.9 kilometres, in its current iteration. Though steeped in history, the circuit bears little to no significant elevation changes. The clockwise circuit turns 18 times, 11 to the right and seven to the left. Complimented by a mix of tight corners, with fast and swooping ones, overtaking opportunities are plentiful. The circuit also features several straights, including the two notably long ones of Wellington and Hangar, the latter of which lies upon an old runway. These are expected to be hunting grounds for the eight Ducatis lining the grid.

The riders are not only expected to battle the track, but also the elements. The much-famed British weather is expected to play a role in proceedings throughout the weekend.

Expected to return to proceedings will be Pol Espargaro. The Spaniard had a rocky start to the 2023 season, picking up an injury early on, but could partake in the British grand prix pending a final medical evaluation.

Whilst Espargaro becomes re-accustomed to Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing, Francesco Bagnaia has become accustomed to being the hunted. Ducati's lead man has had a relatively brilliant first half of the 2023, leading the field by 39 points.

In the Italian's wake, figuratively, and for most part literally, have been Ducati stablemates Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzechi. Though seemingly at great distance points wise the sprint race era large gaps can be assailed quicker than ever before.

Heading into Silverstone, Bagnaia will hang on to the confidence that abides a defending world champion who won at this venue 12 months earlier. Those around him on circuit will hope to limit his fun, in favour of their own.
