Oliver Rowland will be missing both races at Portland this weekend, having been ruled out of the weekend's events after suffering an illness. Indy NXT racer for HMD Motorsport, and Nissan reserve Caio Collet will be taking over in the Nissan, alongside Sacha Fenestraz.
The 31-year old was forced to sit out the weekend on medical grounds, as he will be forced to kiss goodbye to his championship aspirations this season. Rowland currently sits 36 points behind championship leader Nick Cassidy in the standings.
A statement by Nissan read:
"Oliver Rowland will not compete in this weekend's Portland E Prix double-header due to illness. The team's reserve and simulator driver, Caio Collet will step into car #22 instead.
"The whole team wishes Oli a quick recovery and to see him back in action in London next month"
Rowland's absence will come as a shock to the Japanese team, the man from Barnsley being a vital cog in their championship charge this season. The team sit third in the constructors championship, only three points ahead of DS Penske, and a distant 69 points behind Porsche in second.
The Briton himself sits fourth in the championship, having found a stellar run of form all season, quickly becoming one of the stars of 2024. He has taken six podiums and two poles so far in season ten, winning his first race in the series since 2020 when he inherited victory in Misano after Antonio Felix Da Costa was disqualified.
Rowland's absence will no doubt be felt down at the Japanese team, most notably due to his form in peloton-style races, something we can expect even for the Portland E Prix races this weekend. The returning Nissan racer finished third at Sao Paulo, and won at Misano, before taking two third places in Berlin after starting far down the grid.
His smart driving coupled with Nissan's improved powertrain have helped the team and driver net big results, on days when energy management and placement of the car are paramount.
Rowland's replacement for the weekend is Indy NXT racer Caio Collet, who also serves as the team's reserve and test driver. The Brazilian was set to take part in the oval test at Iowa Speedway this weekend for HMD Motorsports.
However, he has been released by the team to fulfill his Formula E commitments. Collet sits third in the Indy NXT standings, having taken two wins and four further podium appearances, being the highest-placed rookie in the junior series so far.
While this test would help him shore up his chances for a Formula E seat in the future, and make a good impression for his team, he will definitely miss out on a crucial test at Iowa, and lose out on some valuable mileage heading into the future rounds.
Formula E races at the Portland International Raceway this weekend, as the season hits home straight into its penultimate weekend. Do make sure to tune in to the live action this weekend — here's how you can watch the races.
