Symonds, having been reported to be leaving his role as F1 chief technical officer, has signed with Andretti Cadillac as Executive Engineering Consultant.

Symonds played a major role in developing Formula One's technical regulations in 2022 for the aerodynamic changes, and for 2026 amid the new engine regulations. The British engineer has been a part of major success with Benetton in the past, who claimed championships with Michael Schumacher in the mid 1990s.

With the 2026 regulations all but solidified, Symonds decided to leave his position, clearly believing Andretti may actually be joining the F1 grid sooner than most might think.

Andretti recently opened a base of operations in Silverstone, UK, as the development of their company grows ever larger, with a spot in F1 looming large.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Pat to the Andretti family,” Andretti stated.

“Pat’s keen understanding of aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics and Formula 1 power units will be instrumental as we continue to build a competitive team,” Andretti continued.

“I believe his expertise has been pivotal in shaping the narrative of Formula 1 and his vote of confidence in joining our effort speaks volumes. I’m really happy with this next step as work continues at pace,” Andretti concluded.

Andretti’s initial F1 entry was rejected, with most established teams stating that an inclusion of an eleventh team may take away from what the teams are doing currently, on and off the grid. That didn’t stop Andretti though, as they have only ramped up development of their operations, determined to get that eleventh spot on the grid for 2026.

The inclusion of Symonds to the team, an engineer decorated with success and experience in the sport only solidifies the fact that Andretti aren’t slowing down in their efforts.
