Porsche Launch 992 GT3

Porsche unveiled their new 992-series 911 GT3 supercar earlier today, with an MSRP to be announced later. The 992 GT3 will be powered by a naturally aspirated flat-six producing 502 horsepower, revving up to a screaming 9,000 RPM. This engine is coupled with either a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed PDK for no extra cost. Notably, this is the only 992-series 911 to have 7 gears on the PDK, as so far all the others have 8 gears. On the inside, owners can opt for anything from carbon-fibre bucket seats and a roll cage to a body-colored tachometer.

Externally, the GT3 differs noticeably from its street-focused siblings. A new rear wing, held up by swan-neck struts, helps contribute up to a 150% increase in downforce over the previous 991.2 GT3. Changes continue throughout, including a center-mounted exhaust which should make the flat-six sound… angry. When it’s time to stop, the GT3 is no slouch, sitting with 16.1-inch rotors on the front wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes being a box to tick on the options list. Unique to the GT3 is an unequal-length control-arm front suspension not seen on any other 992s, instead derived from its Cup car siblings. All of these changes end up giving the 992 GT3 a time faster by 17-seconds around the Nurburgring than its predecessor, and a sub-7 minute lap time. With stats like these, it should be interesting to see what modifications the engineers in Stuttgart will come up with for the even more track-focused GT3 RS.
