Returning to the Sardinian heat for rounds 5 and 6, Extreme E looks to put on yet another spectacular show on the Italian military training ground, with new faces and returning faces sure to throw an even more significant challenge for the teams
Lia Block is making her debut this weekend for Carl Cox Motorsport, replacing Christine GZ for the remaining races. Block has been mightily impressive in a number of other offroad races, including Nitrocross NEXT and the American Rally Association championship. The Block name isn't new to the series, however, as Lia’s father Ken was one of the first drivers to demonstrate the Oddysey 21 and help with its development.
The Season 2 champion, Sebastian Loeb, makes his return this weekend as well, substituting for Nasser Al-Attiyah in the ABT Cupra machine alongside Klara Anderson. The team, currently ninth in the standings, looks to kickstart their title hopes with the vast experience of Loeb.
Veloce leads the standings after four races but can't get comfortable at the top despite having two wins, as a bad weekend can drop them down quickly. Season 2 champions, X44, are fourth in the standings, 29 points behind Veloce and only one point behind the Season 1 champions RXR. At the tail end of the field, JBXE looks to have a strong weekend to jump back into the fight with just 15 points for the season.
With a new course for this year, Sardinia seeks to bring even closer racing to build upon the amazing example presented during the Scottish rounds at the Hydro X-Prix but with completely different surfaces and new challenges under the hot Italian sun.
The Island X Prix is live this weekend across the Extreme E YouTube channel and local broadcasters with the full list available here: https://www.extreme-e.com/en/broadcast-information
