Since joining the grid in 2009, charismatic driver Daniel Ricciardo has had a big influence not just on the track, but also off the track. Known for his big smile and bubbly persona, the Aussie has joined Mclaren for 2021 – partnering 21 year old Lando Norris. However, Ricciardo has made it clear he is there to put in strong performances and not to be a comedy duo with Norris.

Ever since the 2019 British Grand Prix press conference, people have wanted to see the duo together; however, Ricciardo has confirmed that he has vowed to deliver for his new team. Although both drivers have a very infectious personality, Ricciardo is adamant he is at McLaren “for business”. In an interview with Craig Slater, “It’s not going to be a comedy show. Daniel then added “I’m going there for business, I’m going there to improve the car. Last year Mclaren had an extremely strong season, finishing third in the constructors; which has been the highest championship finish for the Woking outfit since 2012. This could suggest Mclaren are back on the rise. In addition going into the 2021 season, Mclaren will be powered by a Mercedes engine which could power into regular podiums contenders.
“My personality won’t change so I think I do enjoy doing what I do… but I’m certainly not going there to be this meme power couple or whatever it’s described as these days!” He explained to Slater. When asked about Renault, Daniel commented “I can honestly leave here feeling fulfilled,” “I think importantly for myself feeling like I contributed something back into this team. Really it was the podiums, and just to see the joy not only on my face but also on the team’s face. It had been so long.” It is clear that Riccardo is keen to get back on the podium and he seems to think that Mclaren is the team to support his progress. After convincingly getting the better of his former teammate Estaban Ocon, Ricciardo is at Mclaren to get results, however we are certain that the community will still get some amazing meme duo moments from the new teammates!
