Rosenqvist signs multi-year Meyer Shank IndyCar extension

Written by Archie O’Reilly

Felix Rosenqvist has signed a multi-year extension with Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) to remain with its IndyCar team through 2025 and beyond, the team has confirmed.

The 32-year-old Swedish driver joined the MSR operation from Arrow McLaren for the 2024 season after three years with the papaya team. He spent his first two seasons in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi Racing, where he finished a career-best sixth in the championship.

Rosenqvist started his time at MSR with five top-10 finishes in six races, disappointingly suffering an engine failure after starting ninth - the best-placed Honda-powered car - in the Indianapolis 500. He also achieved a podium in the $1 Million Challenge exhibition having won his heat race from pole position.

The championship season started with a front-row start in St. Petersburg, which was followed by a maiden pole position for the MSR team in Long Beach. Rosenqvist has since started third on three further occasions and qualified second before an engine penalty at Gateway.

Since the first six races of the season, Rosenqvist has only achieved one more top-10 result with sixth at Gateway after several doses of misfortune. He was tracking for a podium in the season finale at Nashville Superspeedway before a cut tyre ended his race.

Regardless of how the season ended, six top-10 finishes for Rosenqvist, in addition to two for teammate David Malukas, marks a significant upturn on only one top-10 result for the team in the entirety of the 2023 season.

A 12th-place championship finish for Rosenqvist levels what he managed with Arrow McLaren last year and is the best the MSR team has ever achieved.

Looking ahead to 2025, Chip Ganassi has confirmed that his team will be entering a technical alliance with MSR. This means the team co-owned by Jim Meyer and Mike Shank will leave their current relationship with Andretti Global and Rosenqvist will partially reunite with his former team.

MSR is yet to confirm its second driver for the 2025 season after the departure of Malukas from its No.66 Honda to AJ Foyt Racing after 11 races with the team.
