Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed that the Silverstone circuit will be among the three venues that will be trying out the new format of the race weekends.

The Italian, Canadian and Brazilian Grand Prix are speculated to be the top contenders to be the other two venues to hold sprint races.

Domenicali spoke to Sportsmail saying that the circuit was confirmed to hold a sprint race on Saturday July 17th, with a big crowd of spectators.
The new format of the weekend is claimed to be one of the biggest changes in the scheduling of Formula one. As per the updated schedule, qualifying will be held on Friday in place of the second free practice, this will determine the grid for the sprint race. The results of the sprint race will in turn determine grid positions for the main race on Sunday.
