Stoffel Vandoorne to race for Maserati in Formula E's Season 11

Written By Fleur Rogerson

After announcing his departure from DS Penske, Stoffel Vandoorne has now announced that for Season 11 of the Formula E championship, he will be racing for Maserati.

Vandoorne has struggled during his time at DS Penske despite being a championship winner in 2022. Unable to repeat this performance since his move to DS Penske with only one podium in 2023, it became clear Vandoorne was looking for a new opportunity. After finishing 10th in the championship, 78 points behind his teammate, Vandoorne announced his departure from the team after 2 years.

Since his announcement, he has been linked to both Envision and Maserati. Envision, however, seemed to become less likely due to the recent performance of Beumi and Frijns. The latter appeared as the front runner when they announced Günther and Daruvula would both be departing the team.

Stoffel Vandoorne announced today that he will be moving to Maserati. His teammate will be Jake Hughes. Hughes announced he would be leaving NEOM McLaren after 2 years together to go to Maserati as Vandoorne's teammate.

For Vandoorne, Maserati is an opportunity. He is still chasing his second Formula E championship and hopes to find it with the Monégasque team. Perhaps a different team is what the Belgian driver has needed to reignite his championship hopes.

The Italian manufactured Maserati and the Monaco sports group have been collaborating in FE since season 9. However, the team has existed since 2014 under the team name of Venturi.

Despite the experience in the series, Maserati trailed behind DS Penske in the 2024 championship with just 81 points to DS Penske’s 200. They are also yet to take a manufacturer's title. However, with Vandoorne and Hughes, they will aim to challenge for the 2025 Formula E title in the new Gen3Evo cars.
