The Turkish Grand Prix will return once again in order to replace the cancelled Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. The race in Canada has been cancelled for the second consecutive year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stefano Domenciali, F1’s president and CEO, said “I want to thank the promoter and authorities in Canada for all of their efforts in recent weeks but the travel situation made our plans impossible. I equally want to thank the promoter and authorities in Turkey for their ongoing willingness to host a Formula 1 race that shows the huge interest in our sport and the hope from many locations to have a Grand Prix.” “We have had very good conversations with all the other promoters since the start of the year and continue to work closely with them during this period.”
Formula one is working with promoters to ensure that people who purchased tickets for the 2021 race in Canada are either refunded or given the option to transfer their tickets to a different race.
The return of Turkey on the calendar will receive much fanfare as last year’s return, after nine years absent from the calendar, delivered a thriller of a race with Sir Lewis Hamilton fighting through the pack to claim his seventh World Drivers Championship.
Canada joins Vietnam and China as yet another Grand Prix is made victim of the global situation. The circuit’s organisers, however, have agreed to a two-year contract extension with Formula One, so fans can expect racing in Montreal to resume in 2022!
