W series was a free-to-enter all-women racing series, first launched in 2018 to provide equal opportunity in motorsport for women, by removing the financial barriers holding back drivers from progressing up the ladder.

As part of the DTM support bill, the all-female championship held its maiden season in 2019. The COVID pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 season, however, the series was revived in 2021, under Formula 1's support budget.

Due to financial difficulties, the 2022 season ended earlier than it was supposed to, with Jamie Chadwick winning her third consecutive championship following its Singapore round in September.

The series said it was "extremely confident" of a fourth season, and had wanted to return in 2023. But on Wednesday, Evelyn Partners LLP's Kevin Ley and Henry Shinners were named Joint Administrators.

Over the past eight months, discussions with investors about the possibility of saving the series were ongoing, but they ultimately failed to materialise.

The administrators spoke on future plans for the series:

“We are seeking expressions of interest in the business and assets of the company,” said Shinners. “We would ask that any interest is registered with us as quickly as possible.”

The joint administrators plan on exploring options to restart the series in the future.
