Women have played an influential role throughout the history of motor racing. Many have taken to the wheels of motorsport machines, while numerous figures have worked tirelessly on the sidelines in various roles, shaping the racing world to the present day. Woman Spotlight Wednesday aims to take a look at the tales of these superwomen, who have surpassed various hurdles to reach where they are today.
This week, we celebrate the achievements of Aurora Angelucci, who bravely brings down gender barriers in the MotoGP world. Her project, Angeluss – Women Sport Management, continues to support the careers of young women from all over the world and help them achieve their dreams.
Angelucci’s story starts with a visit to Misano when she was younger, together with her father who was already a MotoGP fan. It wasn’t long before Angelucci also fell in love with this sport, but with this new passion came a striking realisation: A worrying lack of women working in the paddock.
Therefore, the young Italian made it her mission to change this entirely, and despite being just 21, she had already made a massive impact in the MotoGP community.
Angelucci first struck the motorsport world when she founded Angeluss and, in 2022, she saw her company partner the Moto3 team, MTA Racing. During their partnership, at the Aragon GP, the team ran Maria Herrera as a wildcard rider, backed by an all-women mechanic line-up.
This marked the first instance of an all-female team lining up on the grid in MotoGP history. This accomplishment highlights one of Angeluss’ core missions, to create opportunities for women to get involved in all aspects of motorsport.
Just a year later, at the start of the 2023 season, Angelucci took over the role of team principal at MTA Racing.
It should also be noted that Angelucci managed this important feat without having any previous connections in the MotoGP environment. She persisted with messages even after being turned down numerous times, just to get financial backing for her project.
Today, Angelucci strives to make young women feel welcomed in MotoGP and beyond it, hoping to have a female rider and team at the highest level of motorcycle racing one day.
Until then, she continues to show the entire world that female riders and mechanics should not be considered an exception, but rather become the norm in the current motorsport world.
Aurora Angelucci’s journey is just beginning, and with such an incredible start, it is more than worth keeping an eye on what is already shaping up to become one of motorsport’s most influential female voices.
