In memory of Nathalie Maillet, who tragically passed away this weekend, we look at her career in motorsport and her passion for “the most beautiful circuit of the world” Spa-Francorchamps.

Born on May 11th 1970 in Verdun to a family of motorsport enthusiasts, she was destined to become interested in the sport as well, becoming a racecar driver too. Her family, mainly her father and uncles, managed a circuit as well. Studying Architecture at the University of London, where she specialised in eco-architecture, she became the head of a cabinet that focused on industrial projects. To quote her, “J’ai deux passions, l’architecture et le sport automobile” (I have two passions, architecture and motorsport) quoted from rtbf.be. She founded Churchill-Hui International, based in Luxembourg, in 2000.

In June 2016 she succeeded Pierre-Alain Thibaut as CEO of Spa-Francorchamps, where her main objective was to ‘pull the circuit to excellence, attract more people and a public that wasn’t previously linked with races. Also, to allow families to come over to the circuit and experience it.’ Hoping to inspire the youth of Belgium to become racecar drivers and highlight the special history of Belgium in Motorsport. She officially took office on the first of July that year, in hopes of realising her dreams for Spa-Francorchamps.

In her time as CEO, she transformed Spa-Francorchamps into a new era of racing. With free WiFi at every visit, augmented reality and new cameras, she really brought the 21st Century to Spa-Francorchamps. Knowing Spa-Francorchamps is important to the economic growth of Wallonia (the region Spa-Francorchamps is in), this was an important investment for the entire region.

Sadly, Nathalie Maillet was found dead in her home last weekend. We at divebomb want to wish the family and friends of Nathalie a lot of strength and support in this difficult time. Do not spread hate or negativity surrounding her death. Be respectful.
